On Documentation
Good documentation isn’t about writing everything down. It’s about writing the right things down, in the right place, at the right level of detail.
I think of it as digital archivism. If it happened, it should be findable. If we learned it, it should be accessible. If we decided it, the reasoning should be preserved.
Philosophy
The best documentation is the kind you find exactly when you need it. Not before, not after. That requires empathy with the future reader.
